Shun Combined Whetstone Sharpener, 6000 Grit supports controlled edge sharpening with an abrasive waterstone. The useful starting grit depends on the condition of the edge: routine dullness, visible damage and final refinement are different jobs.
At a glance
-
Waterstone sharpening
A whetstone removes steel to form and refine an edge. Keep the blade angle controlled and use a stable working setup.
-
Grits: 3000 and 6000
The two grit surfaces provide successive levels of refinement; begin with the side suited to the edge condition.
-
Flat working surface
Check for wear in the middle of the stone; a hollow surface makes consistent blade contact more difficult.
Find your fit
Our whetstone-grit guide explains starting and finishing grits. Check soaking and splash-and-go preparation before wetting an unfamiliar stone.
Care and storage
Follow the exact stone’s water-preparation instructions. Rinse off residue after sharpening, let the stone dry fully as directed and protect it from impacts during storage. Flatten the working surface when wear develops.
